Guidelines recently released by the American Diabetes Association lift restrictions on products made from sucrose, or table sugar, and allow a diet high in monounsaturated fats like olive, canola, and peanut oils. The guidelines give diabetics more dietary options, but patients still must be vigilant about how they eat, experts say.
âWe often say that a good diabetic diet is really just a good diet,â ADA spokesman Nathaniel Clark, MD, tells WebMD. âWe have tried to get away from the concept that there is a special diet that people must follow when they have diabetes. Somebody with diabetes can eat anything that anyone else can eat. They just need to be far more careful about how they eat.â
The key to keeping diabetes under control is not avoiding particular foods, but keeping blood sugar at acceptable levels. The guidelines stress that regular exercise is key to achieving this goal for most diabetics. Moderate exercise not only lowers blood sugar levels, it is an important part of permanent weight control.
High blood sugar levels increase the chance of problems from diabetes such as heart attack, stroke, leg amputations, and blindness. Fifteen million Americans have type 2 diabetes. Being overweight or obese is the most significant risk factor for the disease, which is reaching epidemic numbers among adults and being seen for the first time in large numbers of children.

Im pretty sure they SAY that they call it angel food cake because its so fluffy but you and I both know thats a lie.
Its because you can hear ANGELS SINGING when you put it in your mouth.
Especially with a side of whipped cream, strawberries AND vanilla ice cream BOY OH BOY can you not just taste that right now? Its pretty much the quintessential Summer food.
It was my Grandpas favorite combo too. Whenever he came over, we had to have it. So now it always has this special place in my heart.
And also, my stomach because the amount of angel food cake I have consumed in the past weeks is borderline mental.
Honestly, this was another try-it-12-times kind of recipe so I have been having a slice with almost every meal because I hate wasting. HOWEVER, I did discover that its VRY VRY magical with strawberries and vanilla Greek yogurt all mixed into a bowl for breakfast or snack.
The texture of this healthy angel food cake recipe is just as light, fluffy and magical as the kind you would buy and make from a mix, but made with simpler ingredients and honestly probably PRETTY close to just as easy as the boxed mix kind.
I WILL WARN YOU THOUGH. This cake is VERY finicky. You NEED an angel food pan with a removable bottom to make this and you need to follow the instructions to a T, weighing your flour and not substituting any ingredients. Trust me, I made it 12 times.

Recently I was trolling around Pinterest, as I seem to do more and more these days, and I came across a recipe that looked super easy and like it might not be TERRIBLE, and okay I was hungry. So I printed it out and the next day I went to the grocery store and bought the two TWO! ingredients I needed to make it. I cant find the original recipe, but I followed the instructions at Thats My Home . I imagine it originally came from Weight Watchers, but the recipe on the WW site calls for powdered pudding mix and Cool Whip, neither of which I used. An Angel Food Cake mix and a 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple. Thats ALL. You dont need eggs or oil or any of that stuff just the mix and the pineapple. Please note: you MUST use the angel food cake mix that is a single packet. Theres apparently an angel food cake mix out there that has two packets you mix together. That WILL NOT WORK for this recipe. You should be able to tell whether theres one packet or two by checking the directions on the back.
