Diabetes has a time perspective problem it requires sacrificing short-term pleasure for long-term gains . Some people are good at making this tradeoffwhat psychologists Phillip Zimbardo and John Boyd call future-oriented individuals . People who have this time perspective find it easy to save money, exercise, or go through the daily diabetes hassles to avoid long-term complications. But not everyone is like that. Those who tend to be more present-oriented may not see avoid long-term complications as a good motivator. Instead, they often prioritize the present moment, which can lead to counterproductive health decisions . I suspect Sam is more present-oriented, which means he needs a different motivation approach that focuses on the now.

There was a long pause, and then Sam admitted he had diabetes. I immediately began asking questions to learn more about his story. It was heartbreaking to hear, and even though I live with diabetes myself, Sam reminded me why managing it can be so hard. I have not been able to get his story out of my head, which is why Im sharing it now.

Sams journey highlights six diabetes challenges, all of which are frustratingly common: lack of blood sugar data, low motivation, judgment/failure, lack of support from loved ones, a challenging food environment, and uncoordinated care. Using some of the tips proposed below, I hope we can start to address these challenges as a community.

Bake for 45 minutes or until juices run clear. @danciinglady- I make this every time in a Corningware baking pan with no problem. @everyone- try a little smoked paprika or curry powder, and lots of black pepper! Egg whites are unnecessary. Need to be careful of the sugar grams in ANY cereal, but it sounds wonderful and I agree with kirkwoodmarinate it in buttermilk, but try it overnight in the fridge, it makes the chicken sooooooo tender! I make this all the time..but I water instead of egg or egg whites. I also will use a small amount of bread crumbs with garlic powder and a little seasoning salt. I turn the chicken after 20 minutes. Does not work in a glass pan – must be a metal pan – untreated pan – not a non-stickthat gunks up the pan. I have been wanting to try it except I have regular corn flakes and, I don’t want to throw them in the trash, I feel that their are children in the world that have nothing to eat aghh..Continue reading > >

How To Cook A Whole Chicken For A Diabetic Patient

Keep in mind that the method used to prepare the chicken is extremely important. Fried Chicken is not suggested for people with diabetes. Snacking fast-food chicken mostly in large quantities can result in weight gain, which is not beneficial for diabetics. However, baked chicken is beneficial to diabetics.

Baking the chicken reduces the amount of fat and calories consumed since it does not require any use of oil. Aside from baked chicken, barbecued chicken and grilled chicken are also good options for diabetes patients because grilling is a low-fat cooking method that does not add a significant amount of calories to the meal plan. Cooked chicken in the oven is also a healthy option for people with diabetes.

Hence, always consume chicken in a limited quantity because when food is consumed in a limit, it will never hamper your blood glucose levels.

Also remember that the real composition of a diet plan is best left on a dietician, as it must take into consideration a variety of factors including age, gender, lifestyle, body weight, cholesterol level, blood pressure, and so on.

Chicken And Diabetic Patients: What You Need To Know

Because of its low-fat content, chicken is beneficial to diabetic patients. The amount of high-fat substances found in red meat is extremely high, and this results in elevated cholesterol levels, which can lead to vascular blockages and coronary heart disease.

As a result, people with diabetes should substitute red meat in the foods with lean meats such as chicken or turkey instead. Diabetes patients heart and kidney health are improved as a result of its use, as are the body parts that are at higher risk in diabetics.

Specific Diabetes Friendly Fast Food Tips

It is estimated that over 30% of Americans eat at least one fast food meal every day so, its unrealistic to assume youll never eat fast food again when you have diabetes. Its important to be prepared and have some go-to menu options in mind. In addition to the tips above, keep the following tips about fast food for diabetes in mind as well:

  • Do your research ahead of time. Look up the menu and nutritional information online before you go.
  • Keep in mind that most fried fast food items are fried twice by the time they make it to your hands. This means the amount of fat can be much higher and may result in a delayed glucose spike.
  • Dont go to a fast food restaurant when you are overly hungry. Wait for a time when you can be most in tune with your hunger and fullness cues. If youve skipped a meal that same day, you wont be able to listen to your body to the best of your ability.
  • Dont size up or super size an order.
  • Dont assume that salads are the best option. They may be lacking in protein or have more carbohydrate than you think.

    Digestion And Blood Sugar

Healthy & Delicious Diabetic Chicken Recipes

The faster your body can digest food, the faster and higher your glucose levels rise. If glucose levels rise too quickly, your pancreas may produce too much insulin, setting up a cycle of high and low blood sugar that can lead to insulin resistance, a precursor to Type 2 diabetes. Simple carbohydrates, such as sugar, have the biggest impact on blood sugar levels. Complex carbs, such as fiber, help slow digestion and regulate glucose and insulin production. Any food that slows digestion, including fat and protein, slows glucose production.
